Kira was born in Edmonton, Alberta to a family of musicians. Her mother, Rhonda Taft, recently retired from her 50-year career as double bassist in the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and her father, PJ Perry, is a Juno award winning Jazz saxophonist & member of the Order of Canada. An entertainer from an early age, Kira studied singing and dancing throughout her youth, but it was when she was selected from a countrywide audition as a top 12 finalist on CBC Television’s inaugural season of Triple Sensation that she decided to pursue a career in the performing arts. When she was 17, she moved to Toronto where she earned a BFA in Acting with honours from Ryerson University. Within a year of her graduation, Kira was thrilled to play a lead role at The Stratford Festival in Des McAnuff’s revival of The Who’s Tommy. Since then, she has gone on to play many roles for prestigious companies in and around Toronto, most notably as Young Edie in Musical Stage Co’s production of Grey Gardens, for which she earned a Dora nomination. Kira made her Broadway debut at the age of 24 in Doctor Zhivago at The Broadway Theatre. Other favourite credits include: Vera in Doctor Silver: A Celebration of Life (Musical Stage Co), Hadestown (Pre-Broadway/Citadel), Sousatzka (Teatro Proscenium), Carla in Nine (Podium Concerts), Lola in Damn Yankees (Drayton), Delee in Smokey Joe’s Cafe (Drayton), Jacob Two-Two (YPT), The Listener (CTV), A Northern Song (Forever Epic films), Night Cries (Good Soldier Films).
