Drew Comstock cello25-year-old American-born Cellist Drew Comstock is one of Toronto’s most in demand young musicians. He has recently collaborated with Montreal and Toronto Symphony Concertmasters Andrew Wan and Jonathan Crow, Violinist Barry Shiffman, Violist Steven Dann, and cellist David Geringas. This past season, Drew, in collaboration with Against the Grain Theatre Company and Osvaldo Golijov, presented three of Mr. Golijov’s chamber works at Toronto’s Ismaili Centre. Mr. Comstock is a passionate chamber musician, and has performed at the Toronto Summer Music Festival, le Domaine Forget, and the McGill International String Quartet Academy. As cellist of the Hensel Quartet, he recently won First Prize at the Glenn Gould School Chamber. Drew will be returning to Music by the Sea in Bamfield BC as a company artist this summer. His chamber music coaches include Timothy Ying, Andre Roy, the Borromeo, New Orford, members of the Alban Berg String Quartet, and Steven Dann. Mr. Comstock has studied at the New England Conservatory, McGill University, and The Glenn Gould School. His primary teachers include Yeesun Kim, Brian Manker, Andres Diaz, and Desmond Hoebig. Mr. Comstock has previously been a member of the critically acclaimed chamber orchestra The Discovery Ensemble, whose mission was to bring free orchestral performances to primary and secondary schools in and around Boston. Drew now lives in Miami where he has a fellowship with the New World Symphony.
