Thank You for Your Support
This year has presented many difficulties for charities that would normally hold events in a venue with large gatherings. Music by the Sea adjusted to the realities of COVID-19 in 2020 by presenting 11 live streamed concerts from May till the end of August. We realized that we had inadvertently fine-tuned a concert format that would be an ideal platform for other charities to take advantage of to raise funds in lieu of holding events in a venue with large gatherings. This cooperation of Music by the Sea, Victoria Hospitals Foundation and The Victoria International Marina, was “a marriage made in heaven.” We were excited by the possibilities of what these events might accomplish in support of the arts and the hospitals in Victoria.
2020 was to be the 15th season of Music by the Sea and the company planned to extend the season to bring a series of concerts to Victoria following the festival in Bamfield. “The Victoria run was to be in the new Victoria International Marina on the Inner Harbour” explains Donison, “and we are grateful for their continued support during this time of great change.” The Marina, PK Sound and Darcy Beck Productions have made it possible for Music by the Sea to gather musicians to perform together and live stream these concerts. These special telethon-style concerts were free to view with an option to make a donation. All monies raised were shared equally among MBTS and the Victoria Hospitals Foundation. We curated the music programme to be especially enjoyable for all people who may be in the hospital or any other care facilities anywhere. Indeed, we hoped to reach as many as possible in the community.
Since 2006, the annual Music by the Sea Festival and the MBTS Fellowship Artist Mentorship School has gathered professional musicians from around the globe in Bamfield, at the beautiful Rix Centre for Ocean Discoveries at the Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre on the edge of the Pacific. Music by the Sea looks forward to a return to Bamfield for Music by the Sea 2021.
We thank you for your ongoing support, it has truly made a difference.

Dear Music by the Sea Patrons,
We are announcing today that the 2020 MBTS season has been cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
We are all very disappointed. We delayed as long as possible before having to make this decision.
Although normally there is a “no refund policy” for our tickets, these are extraordinary circumstances. For those who have already purchased tickets we will provide a refund if you choose. We would like you to consider, however, the option of receiving a tax receipt for your payment or the option of using your ticket for an alternative MBTS season. The MBTS box office will be contacting you all in the very near future.
Thank you for your ongoing support and for the support of the community of Bamfield. That support over these 15 years has enabled Music by the Sea to become the experience that so many audiences and professional artists from across Canada and around the world have come to celebrate. We are currently exploring other ways in which Music by the Sea may have a presence this year, so please stayed tuned!
Again,
Many, MANY thanks
Yours Sincerely,
Christopher Donison, Artistic Director
And for the Music by the Sea Board of Directors.
Each Concert Features a Wide Range Of World-Class Performances
Classical and contemporary solo and chamber music, sophisticated jazz and alternative music—each concert features an unique and diverse selection. Superb acoustics and the spectacular backdrop of Vancouver Island’s mystic, bold Pacific make this truly the most inspiring venue anywhere in the Pacific Northwest—an intimate musical experience in a breathtaking setting!
Concerts at Victoria International Marina
Mark these dates! July 29 to August 1, 2020.
Victoria International Marina will host Music by the Sea in four concerts. This will be the inaugural season for this celebrated musical company to be heard in Victoria. For 15 years it has only been available to those who would venture to the isolated village of Bamfield on the westcoast of Vancouver Island where it attracts international jazz and classical artists from around the world. This year, following the Bamfield Festival, the full company will come to the city for a week-long run from July 29 to August 1, leading up to the Victoria Symphony Splash event on August 2. This series of concerts at the Marina will indeed still be “music by the sea”, since the new Victoria International Marina boasts the newest spectacular harbour front location in Victoria’s Inner Harbour. The sunset in the harbour by the sea will be the backdrop to the musicians’ elite performances of classical, jazz, and vocal music. Tickets from $75 to $95 will be available February 1. Phone 250-888-7772 for additional information.
